ALAN BARNES has the unique gift for combining modern sophistication with the charm of the jazz tradition. Internationally acclaimed and multi award-winning, he plays alto sax, baritone sax and clarinet.
Over the years Alan has featured on many jazz recordings and has toured and performed with an astonishing variety of bands and musicians. He has won many British Jazz awards in alto, baritone, clarinet and arranging categories. In 2001 and 2006 Alan received the prestigious BBC Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year award and in November 2003 was made a fellow of the Leeds College of Music where he originally studied music.
IAN SMITH has played trumpet with talents as varied as Gwyneth Herbert, Hank Wangford, Alan Barnes and Michael Horowitz. He has lectured on Modern and Renaissance Poetry at universities on both sides of the Atlantic while also playing jazz regularly with some of the leading players in Britain and Europe.
KEVIN SANDERS has been playing electric and double bass professionally now for over twenty five years, gigging and recording with some of the finest musicians and soloists in the world. He is Head of Bass studies for The Academy of Music and Sound – a group of eight academies, linked to universities around the UK which offer practical musical education for the student who aspires to be a working musician. As well as having written the courses, he visits to give masterclasses. His long term plan is to develop full time high quality musical education for the working bassist.
