A band made up of some of Britain’s leading jazz musicians arrives at Sladers Yard on Saturday 15th November for a creamy night of jazz classics with Ian Smith’s highly entertaining, hilarious and super-cool commentary. Joined by the fabulous VIMALA ROWE, they will play songs from the Ella Fitzgerald songbook.

IAN SMITH has played trumpet with talents as varied as Gwyneth Herbert, Hank Wangford, Alan Barnes and Michael Horowitz. He has lectured on Modern and Renaissance Poetry at universities on both sides of the Atlantic while also playing jazz regularly with some of the leading players in Britain and Europe. He has performed at leading jazz festivals and on BBC Radio 3 and 4. A regular star performer at Sladers Yard, his evenings are red letter days. A published writer, IanSmith and Alan Barnes recently wrote and performed in an acclaimed BBC Radio 4 drama, Blood Count, about the final recording of Duke Ellington.
Sladers Yard’s jazz evenings bring together some of the country’s best players in intimate evenings with stunningly delicious dinners cooked by Sladers Yard’s Licensed Café. The Café specialises in fresh, organic and locally grown ingredients cooked to memorable Moorish and Mediterranean recipes. The £15 set price main course will be a choice of three dishes including meat, fish and vegetarian. There will be a full menu of á la carte starters and desserts to complete your dinner if you like as well as a delicious wine list.
