Gypsy Fire’s explosive energy and skill combine to create stunning acoustic instrumental performances with breathtaking musical virtuosity. They breathe new life into music from the worlds of classical, jazz, Latin, rock, blues and beyond. Their music is filled with passion and flair, utterly engaging and surprising audiences with twists and turns of harmony and rhythm. Individually they are acclaimed soloists, together they are simply breathtaking.
Classically trained, yet consummate improvisers, this dynamic four-piece have an innate sense of swing rhythm. All four members are masters of pin-point rhythm accuracy and cover songs as diverse as Flight of the Bumblebee, Air on a G String and Blackbird.
Violinist Ben Holder is one of the most gifted and exciting young jazz violinists in the UK. Taught classically from the age of six, and a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, he is inspired by masters such as Benny Goodman and Oscar Peterson and the great jazz violinists Grappelli and Joe Venuti.
Guitarist Stuart Carter-Smith has a well-earned reputation as a top-class Gypsy Jazz guitarist. As a teenager he fell in love with the music of Django Reinhardt, and his post-classical studies took him to work with some of the finest names in that genre both in the UK and overseas.
Will Barnes is a young professional guitarist from the UK specialising in Jazz. As well as session work (both live and recording) with various bands and artists, Will also performs live solo sets on a regular basis. With influences from Django Reinhardt and Kenny Burrell to John Martin and Bert Jansch, these solo performances uniquely capture his love of Jazz, Blues and Folk music. Alongside performing and composing music, Will also runs a successful recording business where he has worked on numerous label releases as both an engineer and producer. Will is also a sought after live sound engineer with a specialism in Metal which has seen him mixing for some of the UK’s top acts at major festivals and clubs.
Bassist Paul Jefferies has played with some of the leading names in jazz, including Tina May, Art Themen, Tommaso Starace, Juliet Kelly and Roger Beaujolais. He is known for a superb sense of time and musicality, and is an inventive and lyrical bassist who appears regularly with a wide range of ensembles including The Frank Hockney Project, DOME, and Rob Terry Trio.
Preceded by a delicious dinner cooked by Jacqueline Spendlow, the acclaimed head chef at Sladers Yard Café, the £15 dinner ticket price includes a choice from a short menu of wonderful seafood, meat and vegetarian main courses. Starters, desserts, cheese, delicious wines and liqueurs can be added as desired.
