To a host of writers ranging from TS Eliot and WH Auden to Jack Kerouac and Frank O’Hara, jazz has been a recreational delight as well as a profound source of inspiration. Ian Smith brings the poetry and the jazz together to explore this rich connection.
IAN SMITH has lectured on Modern and Renaissance Poetry at universities on both sides of the Atlantic and, at the same time plays jazz regularly with leading musicians from Britain and Europe. A published writer, he is currently working on a play for Radio 4 with ALAN BARNES, Britain’s leading saxophonist who joins him now in a dazzling double-bill at Sladers Yard on Saturday night and Sunday lunch.
The 9th Bridport Literary Festival comes to a spectacular end with a highly entertaining and fascinating 90 minute lunchtime event with jazz, poetry readings and hilarious commentary.
