Coastal Light – Martyn Brewster, Peter Hayes, Paul Wearing opens 9/10 Sept

This autumn Martyn Brewster fills the galleries of Sladers Yard with his lyrical abstract paintings and pen and ink drawings of the Dorset coast. Alongside ceramics by Peter Hayes, Paul Wearing and other leading makers and the furniture of Petter Southall this promises to be a many layered textured feast of an exhibition.

Andrew Bird and Anne Davies from 4 March

Anne Davies and Andrew Bird both grew up in the Peak District and draw their inspiration from the landscapes of the Industrial Revolution which they find in the north and the west of England. They are fascinated by old mills and warehouses, ships and rows of worker’s cottages decaying now and embedded into dramatic rugged landscapes and harbours. In different ways, both love to paint the combination of architecture and coast or countryside, focusing on texture, pattern, space and light, the compound impressions of place. Petter Southall’s furniture also has a mind for ship shapes, streamlines and boatbuilding techniques creating a design language all his own. Continue reading
